CV and Application Tips for Government Jobs in Pakistan
FPSC, PPSC, and department ads often ask for a specific biodata format. Here is how to align your documents with public sector expectations.
Follow the advertisement exactly
Government notices specify forms, photograph size, domicile certificates, and sometimes a prescribed CV format. Missing one attachment can disqualify you before merit lists.
Read whether experience is required in the same pay scale or cadre. Pakistani public ads use precise wording about years in BPS grades.
Keep both digital and printed copies identical. Panels compare what you submitted online with what you bring to the interview.
Biodata vs modern resume
Many departments still want chronological biodata: personal particulars, education from matric onward, employment history, and references.
Use formal language and full dates. Gaps must be accounted for month by month, not rounded to years.
Attach verified degrees, HEC equivalence for foreign qualifications, and experience certificates on proper letterhead with contact numbers.
Interviews and tests
Your CV is read alongside test scores. FPSC and similar bodies weight written exams heavily; the CV supports eligibility and interview questions.
Prepare to explain each job leave and promotion. Panels often ask why you left a previous public or private post.
Carry extra copies and a USB with PDFs. Power cuts and slow printers still happen at government offices in smaller cities.
Common mistakes
Wrong domicile or quota category listed. Double-check NADRA and official domicile documents match the form.
Overclaiming supervisory experience when you were a junior assistant. Government verification is strict.
Informal email addresses. Create a simple name-based Gmail for applications.
