How to Make Your Resume Pass ATS in Pakistan

Most large employers in Pakistan use applicant tracking systems before a human reads your CV. Here is how to format and word your resume so it actually gets through.

What ATS means for Pakistani job seekers

When you apply on Rozee, Mustakbil, or a bank's career portal, your resume often goes into an applicant tracking system first. The software reads your file, pulls out skills and job titles, and ranks you against other applicants.

If your CV is a scanned image, a fancy design with text in headers, or saved in a format the system cannot parse, you may get filtered out even when you are qualified. This happens more than most candidates realize.

ATS is not something only foreign companies use. HBL, Meezan Bank, Jazz, Telenor, and many Islamabad and Karachi firms rely on similar tools for high-volume hiring.

Formatting rules that work

Stick to a single-column layout with standard section headings: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills. Avoid tables, text boxes, and graphics for contact details.

Use a common font like Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman at 10 to 12 point size. Fancy fonts and icons often break parsing.

Save as PDF only if the job post allows it and your PDF is text-based, not a flat image. When in doubt, upload a .docx file. Many Pakistani portals handle Word files more reliably.

Keywords from the job description

Read the posting carefully. If they ask for SAP, branch operations, or React Native, those exact phrases should appear in your resume where they are honest matches.

Do not stuff keywords in white text or hidden sections. Recruiters in Lahore and Karachi have seen every trick, and modern systems flag odd formatting.

Mirror the language of the ad. If they write "customer relationship management" instead of "CRM," use their wording once or twice in context.

Test before you apply

Copy your resume text into a plain Notepad file. If the order looks scrambled or sections vanish, the ATS will struggle too.

Apply early for roles with hundreds of applicants on Rozee. Ranking often favors clear keyword matches and complete profiles, not just the best story.

Keep a simple master CV for portals and a slightly tailored version per role. Small changes to skills and summary lines can improve match scores without rewriting everything.
